Student Ambassador Program

Lisa Kinnemore would like to introduce a new opportunity for home school students for the 2018-2019 school year. The Student Ambassador Program is a leadership development program for high school students that centers around civic engagement, voter registration promotion and volunteerism. The Secretary of State’s office launched this program statewide in the fall of 2016. Secretary Kemp has created this opportunity for students to work as liaisons between our office and their schools. Through the program, they will promote voter registration and voter awareness among their peers.

Currently, there are approximately 150 schools across the state participating, and we are now opening up registration for the 2018-2019 school year. We have seen great success with the program thus far, and we are excited to see it continue to grow. The students are learning while engaging and giving back to their communities.

The program is free to join and open to all high schools and homeschool groups in the state of Georgia. If you choose to partake, we ask that you select at least one sophomore, junior, and senior to participate as each grade level has specific roles and responsibilities in the program. Each school is allowed to select up to 9 representatives, and how these students are selected is left up to the individual schools.

The students will attend a regional kick-off event in the fall where they will receive all the training and resources they will need to be successful in the program.  Throughout the year, the students will plan events that center around civic involvement, voter registration promotion, and volunteerism. For each event that they hold, they will receive points towards our statewide and regional competitions. I have included a link to an informational video that would only take a few minutes of your time, and gives great insight about the program.

For students that are interested in joining, the deadline is August 24th to sign up.

Kick Off Dates:

Atlanta (Georgia World Congress Center): September 6
Statesboro (Georgia Southern University): September 12
Macon (Anderson Conference Center): September 13

Meet Christina, the winner of our annual EPIC Materials Scholarship.  Christina won our annual $100 scholarship offered to members of EPIC Homeschool Network. To learn more about membership go to

Upon receiving her scholarship Christina expressed her deepest thanks:

Thank you so much for the materials scholarship! We have used the money from the scholarship to add to our ever growing books for homeschooling the 2 kids I have. I added some preschool workbooks and reading books for my 3 yr old and for my 8 yr old I have added Singapore science and also some language arts books as well. We used the leftovers to make a new shelf for our books as our previous shelf was getting a bit tight. I can not say thank you enough for the scholarship as this year was a bit tight for us money wise and we certainly used it! I hope you keep the EPIC scholarships open for those who need them in the future. Thank you again.

What Do I Do With My Kids All Summer? DIY Summer Program

Summer time is almost here and the question on a lot of inquiring minds is “What do I do with my kids all summer?”  You have overnight summer camps or day camps… but what if that is not in your budget? Well, do it yourself!

EPIC Homeschool Network, Inc. has some simple solutions for your DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Summer Program.  The key to a successful and productive summer is fun, learning and accountability.

Plan something that is fun, engaging and gets you out of the house at least once a week during the summer.  Choose a day of the week that you will designate to make it happen.

Fun activities can range from going to the local pool with friends (or by yourself), to checking out the local parks, libraries and/museums.  They are all offering something for the summer so join in the fun.

Are you stuck looking for ideas?  We have come up with a fun family activity to help you decide what you should do this summer with a game within a game.  Here’s how it works.  Print the 2018 EPIC Summer Bucket List for June game-board and play Tic-Tac-Toe as you normally would.  One person is “X” and the other “O”.  Try to get three in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.  Whichever three activities are in a row at the end of the game are the three activities you will do as a family. Download the EPIC Summer Bucket List Here:

If you are in the Atlanta area join us for our EPIC Fun & Run, a free event, on June 21, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. .  To register go to

A mind is a terrible thing to waste.  Don’t let it wither away this summer.  Learning doesn’t have to take place outside of fun.  For example, join EPIC’s Summer Read-A-Thon runs from July 9 – 20, 2018.  One of the great things about this program is that everyone can qualify for a free prize.  The more money you raise, the more prizes you get.  It’s a win-win-win! You get to help a nonprofit, have fun, and earn prizes in the process. To regsister go to

So you have made great plans for the summer.  How do you keep up?  How do you make sure you actually get it done?  Form an accountability group with like minded moms.  You can structure it however you want.  You can do the activities together or just call each other up at the same time every week to see how the summer plans are going.  A little accountability done consistently goes a long way!

There you have it, our 3 steps to doing it yourself this summer and bypassing the camp fees. What some fun learning activities do you have planned for the summer?
