EPIC Has Blown Me Away: Kimberly’s EPIC Testimony

When Kimberly Cosby first began her homeschooling journey as a newly single mother, she wasn’t just looking for educational resources—she was searching for a community where her whole family could thrive. That’s when she heard about EPIC from fellow member Tumeka Slaton, in what she describes as a life-changing moment.

A Place For Everyone to Learn

Kimberly’s family includes her 4 children–all of whom have been heavily involved with EPIC in different capacities since joining. Their involvement varies from hands-on activities to structured learning approaches. In Kimberly’s home, learning isn’t just limited to kids–it’s a full family event. Everyone is engaged and EPIC is the platform that allows them to learn together seamlessly. Whether it’s by her toddler exploring nature, her middle schooler leading activities, or Kimberly stepping into a teaching role, they develop a love of learning together.

Kimberly and her EPIC Children

After seeing how much her second daughter Kalia enjoyed EPIC’s Little Learners Program, Kimberly was inspired to get involved. She soon became a teacher for the program and got to be a hands-on mom in that capacity. After she joined, Kimberly had an opportunity to teach a lesson on voting and civic engagement using berries and other hands-on materials to help the younger children begin to understand the voting process. All in a fun and age-appropriate way.

That’s what’s so wonderful about EPIC: it creates a space for everyone to learn and be involved. From parents to teens to toddlers, there are meaningful opportunities available to everyone.

EPIC’s Impact on Learners

“When I first started EPIC, my oldest daughter was 6 at the time and in private school and doing well,” Andrea says, “but I chose to homeschool—and EPIC has blown me away with all my kids have done since joining”.

The list of her children’s achievements since then has been long and impactful. Her eldest daughter Kylee has become involved in Diaper Drives, Shoe Drives, Beta Club, and Robotics Club, and even won a $2500 business grant through the Young CEO Program that EPIC shared with them. Kylee not only learned about entrepreneurship but also got financial and educational support to further expand her community service initiatives. Kyrah, her youngest daughter is already very involved academically and participated in EPIC’s Walk Through Black History. At 4 years old she was able to proudly talk to anyone about Ruby Bridges and Jennifer Jones.

EPIC acts as a hub for parents and students to find exciting programs that align with their passions. Through EPIC Kimberly found a 13-day summer program at Kennesaw State University where one of her children is now learning history in a college environment. Through programs like the IEW Writing CurriculumOutschool courses, and Robotics, Kim’s children have gained tangible skills—from coding and digital art to public speaking and poetry writing. Her youngest even started to learn about geography. But more than just academics, EPIC has given her children confidence and love for learning

More Than Academics: A Place For Support

Homeschooling isn’t easy–and EPIC understands that. Kimberly talks passionately about how the organization not only supports kids but also parents. There are parent coffee meetupsdonuts with dad, and parent workshops where everyone can find community. EPIC makes sure parents aren’t alone and have the social support to be the best for their children. Kimberly believes that EPIC has an “authentic way of bringing people together from different backgrounds. And are able to come together and make things happen”

Even when Kimberly and her family took an extended trip to Mexico, EPIC remained in constant communication, supporting her and her children. From phone calls from other families checking in to grants and educational opportunities shared across the board, Kimberly and her children always felt connected. Two EPIC moms even visited them in Mexico–further proof that community doesn’t end when families make their way outside of Georgia.

Thinking Of Joining EPIC?

To families considering joining EPIC, Kimberly has this to say:

“If I did it, you can do it too. We’re real parents. We’re building a community. It’s way bigger than homeschooling”. With initiatives like the Young CEO Program, STEM Clubs, and parent workshops all EPIC families continue to grow, learn, and give back—all while teaching their respective children the value of community. Kimberly’s experience and that of many other parents remind us that EPIC Homeschool Network is more than an organization’s movement.

A place that empowers students and parents alike to make the most of their education.
