It was another Monday morning. The fun from the weekend activities has worn off, and now it was time for a new week of homeschool. Oh joy.
I dread walking into my kids’ room to wake them up. It’s not my most favorite thing to do. It’s when the complaining begins. As if awoken by a conductor, my kids say in concert, “I don’t want to wake up!” “Do we have to do school today?!” “I hate school!”
Does that sound like your homeschool?
Yeah… me too!
So, what’s a homeschool mom to do?
This was when I reached out to one of the homeschool moms in the Network, Tumeka. Here are a few things you can do to have fun and bring some joy to your homeschool this week.
Play Games
Playing games is such a no-brainer to bringing joy to your homeschool. However, did you know that playing games is also a great way to bring joy to your homeschool AND make it count towards homeschooling. For example, you can play scrabble to teach vocabulary, and the scorer would be practicing math skills. You can also play other games like Scrabble SLAM, Math War, Clue, and Uno, to name a few.

Go on a Field Trip
Make sure to plan one activity away from the house every week. It could be as simple as going to the park or riding bikes on a trail.

Take a Class on Outschool
If you have not discovered Outschool, it is an amazing platform that allows kids to take live, online classes with a teacher. You can find classes on any subject. EPIC Homeschool Network also has classes on Outschool. We have Homeschool Hangout, a Bedtime Storytime Class, Intro to Art, and Basic Crochet for Beginners. If you are new to Outschool and use the following link, you will get a $20 credit to try some Outschool classes: http://epichsn.org/outschool.
This is a great way to introduce some fun into your homeschool and also get a break!!!
Fend for Yourself Fridays
When my friend, Tumeka, first told me about this Fend for Yourself Fridays and my interest was piqued. She had to explain, and she did. Fend for Yourself Fridays is when the kids get to eat whatever they want and entertain themselves all night long. They must clean up after themselves before they go to bed.
I love the concept, especially after a long week of work. I could definitely use the fun Friday approach.
Today, we are going to have fun in our homeschool!
What about you? How do you have fun in your homeschool?
