In 2018 EPIC Homeschool Network, Inc. along with the South Cobb Regional Library to hosted our Annual EPIC Homeschool Resource Fair featuring local resources for the homeschooling community as well as for parents of any school aged child. We had over 200 attendees and gave away gift cards, planners, free lessons and a host of other prizes.

Story Time – The Color Machine

Special Story Time event featuring a picture book from author/illustrator, A.H. Taylor. The town of Colormazoo has been turned inside out, everywhere you look there’s a scream and a shout. The Color Machine is now in disrepair, the town’s people march to the Mayor. What can we do, to find a clue? It could have been me or it could have been you? Will anyone ever uncover what turned the town’s people against each other?

Stop Fighting with Your Kids! Five Steps to Less Stress in Your Home
with Jennifer Henn

Afraid she couldn’t do it, but refusing to give into the doubt, Jennifer Henn began to homeschool her oldest child when he was five. She wanted school to be fun, but also to make sure the kids learned. This was the beginning of the plan to be well-adjusted in her homeschool.
Staying away from a heavy load of textbook work, the kids learned math and language skills combined with reading good books, working through extended projects, hands on activities, and field trips.
Seventeen years later, she enjoys the relationship she has with her adult sons and her teenage daughter. Now she’s on a mission to help mothers homeschool successfully while maintaining peace in the home.
This session is for parents. I use myself as a solid example that change from ranting and raving, unclear expectations, and other bad habits can be overcome. I give parents permission to recognize what areas they need to work on, and how to do it. I also point out that they can be the ones to change bad family patterns.

Judy Sarden has been a corporate attorney and entrepreneur for over twenty years. After feeling the need to home educate her children, Judy left her corporate legal job and began working for herself at home as a contract attorney, business advisor, career coach and writer. She is passionate about helping people reach their entrepreneurial potential and teaching kids to think entrepreneurially.
Judy is a wife and mother of 2 children, who have been homeschooled since the oldest began kindergarten. An avid supporter of home education, Judy encourages all families, and especially African American families, to consider educating their children at home. Recognizing that many families need two incomes, Judy works with parents to help them discover how best to use their talents to generate income.
So many parents ask the question – I want to homeschool my kids but how do I do it? This is an interactive session where the speaker and audience interact with each other. Ask anything from understanding homeschool laws, the types of homeschool styles, how to find curricula, setting a schedule that works for your family and whatever else comes up during the session.

Building Strong Readers through The Read Aloud

Terri Hunt is the Director of Education for Superior Guidance. Her mission is to teach well and lead the way.
Terri takes great pride in the role she plays in the life of the learner. With over 14 years of educational experience, Terri has engaged a wide range of learners from the elementary classroom to the professional development of instructional leaders. Terri obtained her undergraduate degree in education from Oakwood University and her graduate degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Georgia. She holds a gifted endorsement as well as a reading certification. Terri will bring this knowledge, expertise and engagement to the attendees of this event. Though she is an accomplished professional, her greatest achievements are her family and her ministry.
By the time you’ve completed the extracurricular shuffle, served dinner and tucked your kids away in bed you’re definitely ready for a well-earned rest! But before you give those good night hugs or say those final prayers there’s one more thing you need to do: read a bedtime story. Reading a bedtime story is a little like putting money into the bank and watching it grow. If you really want to watch your child blossom take part in this session and learn how to maximize story time to experience big returns on the investment of time!

Dedra Roman has a Master of Science in Library & Information Studies from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Florida A&M University. Dedra oversees the Youth Services Department for the South Cobb Regional Library – Cobb County Public Library System (CCPLS). Dedra has over 10 years of administrative experience and 5 years as a Librarian where she champions innovative library programming and services for patrons.
